9/11/06 The Flag is certainly needed for today's blog. That event was just "unreal" and now to look back and realize that we watched it live on TV still seems unreal.
This guy on the right is running the Saint George Marathon. I don't know him. I do need to, right off, let everyone know that this isn't me. I am sure you thought it was. I suppose that since I actually have run the Saint George Marathon 13 times, and the Desert News Marathon once, it ought to look more like me.
Green Chile smells wonderful when it is roasted. This time of year is State Fair time. At the Fair will be places that will roast these green chile's in a large round basket. The smell is very very good. Tastes great too.
In New Mexico you don't see much Chili. Texas Chili or Brown Chili is not a common thing. Green Chile is in everything in New Mexico. Eggs, burritos, any Mexican dish, all Salsa, and more. I have seen it in Apple Pie. It is great.
This is not the Radio that I listened to when I was young. We did in fact have one a lot like this and I recall listening to the Lone Ranger and Amos and Andy. I remember when we got out first TV. It was black and white and we had 2 or 3 channels.
Howdy Doody, American Bandstand, The Rifleman, and Ed Sullivan are some shows that come to mind.
This Radio sat in my Grandparents living room on Randolph Street. I acutally don't remember it being turned on but a number of folks who might ? see this blog will remember it.
Books
I had a great picture of the book, the "Iliad", in place here but it is gone ? and recovering it may be a challenge. I was going to say about that book that it ranks as a book I liked, but it took at least two, maybe three, readings, and then hearing it on tape, to be able to say that. It is a hard book to get through. (Ulysses is a another one like this) Even so it is a good book when you try to imagine Homer writing it and how long it survived.
Ulysses, the book, reminds me a little of this whole blog. The Odyssey was the story line and it was a long journey but the the later book took the journey and just spent a day taking you around a city block and related it to the Odyssey adventure.

Gee I notice you don't get many comments. I first want to say I was positive that the guy with the flat stomach and nice bod was you.
I even remember when you were up to 20 miles a week last summer and that was indeed great.
Way to go.
Oh My, ... Now I MUST comment! BJ, I would have said just that! Nice bod, etc., but then people would be looking at me a little "weirdly" since we're related. But since it's NOT you I guess it's OK to say...Nice bod.. Flat stomach!
Now that I'm taking up space, I shall say that yes I DO remember that beautiful old radio. I always wanted to turn it on and play with the buttons but it was OFF LIMITS to little fingers.
Your talk of the fair makes me hungry. Of course being an Idahoan makes my experience a little different. I can smell pronto pups and tater tots as I type. Oh and don't forget the funnel cake! These are, of course, not good for nice bods or flat stomachs...
love your first comment! LOL!
~Laughing Out Loud~ A friend told her kids that Three Dog Night was playing at the fair a few years ago. Her kids thought it meant three hot dogs for the price of one.
