And on her lovers arm she leant,
And round her waist she felt it fold
And far across the hills they went
In that new world which is the old;
Across the hills, and far away
Beyond their utmost purple rim,
And deep into the dying day
The happy princess followed him
Alfred Tennyson
Ok, it is a day early to talk about 40 years.
Today just a favorite poem and a mention that tomorrow is our 40 th anniversary. (9/9/66 to 9/9/06)
This book isn't in my top 25 but I like it
I like books about books. I like to find people in the story lines of the books I read that stop to talk about another book they like. This book offers some good advice. It says "do not attempt to improve your neighbor or your neighborhood by what or how you read". On the other hand it says that reading helps you see things as someone else does.
This is the core of the matter for this book is the question, why read? This book lists some good stuff. First of it says because "it matters". It suggests that "reading well" is one of the great pleasures that solitude can afford you, because it is, at least in the authors experience, the most healing of pleasures. It helps prepare us for change. It helps a person weigh and consider issues. It say that imaginative literature is otherness, and as such alleviates loneliness. Maybe it makes random thoughts.......................... specific.
